During January 2026, 3541@3541.website contributed to the bazelbuild/bazel repository by updating the default JDK version for OpenBSD bootstrapping from 17 to 21, aligning with the latest OpenBSD ports and addressing compatibility issues. This work involved careful system programming and Java development to ensure that the new JDK version integrated smoothly with Bazel’s build process on OpenBSD, while maintaining existing FreeBSD behavior. By closing two related issues, the update improved build reliability and clarified platform tooling expectations. The depth of the work is reflected in the precise patch management and rigorous change traceability demonstrated throughout the implementation process.
