
During May 2025, Alex extended the C API surface for the IndexBinaryIVF class in the facebookresearch/faiss repository, enabling direct C access to previously C++-only functionality. By developing new C++ sources and headers, Alex implemented getter and setter accessors as well as core methods such as merge_from and search_preassigned, making these features accessible through the C API. This work focused on C API development and software engineering, broadening FAISS’s usability for C-based projects. The changes addressed cross-language integration challenges, allowing easier adoption of FAISS in production pipelines and supporting more flexible workflows for teams working in both C and C++.
