Worked on improving the reliability of the gateway heartbeat mechanism in the buape/carbon repository, focusing on backend development using TypeScript and robust testing practices. Addressed a critical issue where the heartbeat state could become stale during disconnects or reconnects by resetting the lastHeartbeatAck flag, ensuring the gateway plugin maintained accurate state and reducing false heartbeat failures. Developed and integrated targeted tests to validate the new heartbeat behavior and guard against regressions, enhancing overall system resilience. The work contributed to higher uptime and stability for the gateway component, reflecting a methodical approach to bug fixing and quality assurance in backend systems.
