Over a three-month period, contributed to the galaxyproject/tools-iuc and galaxy-hub repositories by developing user-facing tools and technical content. Built the OpenAlex Explorer Tool in Python, enabling researchers to fetch and analyze citing papers with support for DOI, title, and OpenAlex ID searches, and added features for open access PDF downloads and exportable summary outputs. Enhanced validation for oatk by engineering comprehensive test datasets across FASTA, GFA, and BED formats, improving reliability for genomics workflows. Authored and refined technical documentation and blog content in Markdown, focusing on scientific communication and clarity, while maintaining disciplined version control and code quality.
May 2025 monthly performance summary for galaxyproject/tools-iuc. Delivered user-facing OpenAlex Explorer Tool enabling fetch and analysis of citing papers, with support for searching by DOI, title, or OpenAlex ID; provides statistics on open vs closed access; generates summary and TSV outputs; packaging/config (shed.yml) included and code refinements implemented. Added Open Access PDFs Download feature with a --download flag, wired into the main flow; download_pdf now accepts a target folder and TSV outputs were updated; tests adjusted to cover the download option. Codebase cleanup performed to remove deprecated oatk tooling, reducing maintenance burden. Also implemented targeted quality improvements: refactors to simplify max_cite/input handling, spacing refinements, and other small optimizations. Overall, these changes deliver measurable business value by enabling faster, reproducible data retrieval for researchers, improved export formats for downstream analytics, and a leaner, more maintainable codebase.
