During December 2025, Derek Maekask developed a robust orphaned container status feature for the homarr-labs/homarr repository, focusing on enhancing reliability and user experience. He used React and TypeScript to implement defensive checks that prevent runtime errors when Docker container statistics, such as cpu_stats.online_cpus, are undefined. Derek improved the user interface by introducing a gray badge to clearly indicate orphaned containers, making problematic stats easily identifiable. He also integrated internationalization support, ensuring the new status is translated across all supported languages. This work increased code resilience and reduced support incidents, demonstrating thoughtful full stack development within a short timeframe.
