Raiki Sakura enhanced storage efficiency and reliability in the apache/skywalking-banyandb repository by developing an embedded etcd auto-compaction and defragmentation feature. Using Go and leveraging expertise in backend development and distributed systems, Raiki exposed configuration options for auto-compaction mode, retention, and backend storage quota, allowing operators to fine-tune storage management. The implementation included scheduled defragmentation to reclaim disk space and improve IO performance, directly addressing operational risks and stability concerns. This work demonstrated a focused, in-depth approach to system administration and configuration management, delivering a robust solution that improves both the maintainability and performance of the storage layer.

April 2025: Focused on storage efficiency and reliability for the embedded etcd layer in apache/skywalking-banyandb. Delivered auto-compaction with configurable mode, retention, and backend storage quota, and added scheduled defragmentation to reclaim disk space, improving stability. This work enhances storage management, reduces operational risk, and provides clearer configuration for operators.
