During October 2024, Saren contributed to the obsproject/obs-studio repository by addressing a stability issue affecting Linux users. Saren engineered a dynamic capture source selection mechanism for window and game capture, enabling the application to automatically detect the underlying window system and choose between xcomposite_input and pipewire-screen-capture-source as appropriate. This approach resolved a crash risk on non-X11 systems and improved compatibility across diverse Linux environments. The solution involved updates to both the UI and importers, ensuring capture sources are translated correctly. Saren’s work demonstrated proficiency in C++, cross-platform development, and UI development, resulting in enhanced robustness and user experience.
