Ben Carver developed and integrated an MCCL backend option for the Param Comms Benchmark in the facebookresearch/param repository, focusing on backend extensibility and performance benchmarking. Using Python and PyTorch, Ben updated the infrastructure to support MCCL alongside existing C10d and TorchComms backends, introducing a build-time configuration flag to enable mutual exclusivity between MCCL and NCCL/NCCLX. This approach prevented symbol conflicts and allowed direct performance comparisons between communication libraries within the benchmarking framework.
