Developed robust spectral object handling features for the sdss/sdssdb repository, focusing on encoding and decoding SpecObjIDs and enhancing the primary spectral classification workflow. Leveraged SQL and database development skills to implement new SQL functions that build and parse spectral object identifiers, update classifications based on calculated scores and versioning, and refactor existing procedures for clearer logic. Introduced temporary columns for intermediate calculations and improved transaction handling to strengthen data integrity and error management. These changes streamlined the end-to-end spectral metadata workflow, enabling more accurate classifications and simplifying ongoing maintenance, with clear, auditable updates to the underlying data model.
