
Developed a targeted enhancement for the EZoni/WarpX repository by adding ParticleHistogram2D diagnostics support to the PICMI interface. This work involved implementing the ReducedDiagnostic._handle_particle_histogram2d method in Python, enabling users to define and record two-dimensional particle histogram diagnostics directly from PICMI input files. The approach improved backend observability and facilitated more granular physics analysis and debugging by streamlining the collection of 2D histogram data. Leveraging skills in API development, backend development, and scientific computing, the solution integrated seamlessly with existing workflows, allowing for minimal user effort while expanding the diagnostic capabilities available to researchers working with WarpX simulations.
