During February 2025, Alex Smith contributed to the OpenStack Kubernetes Operators team by developing end-to-end network telemetry and observability features. Working across the openstack-k8s-operators/telemetry-operator and openstack-k8s-operators/openstack-operator repositories, Alex integrated the openstack-network-exporter into operator deployments, enabling comprehensive metric collection from OVN, OVS, and DPDK components. Using Go and YAML, Alex automated deployment wiring and standardized image definitions to streamline onboarding and reduce configuration drift. The work included building a Grafana dashboard with conditional DPDK panels, consolidating metrics visualization, and enhancing proactive issue detection. This focused engineering improved monitoring consistency and accelerated troubleshooting for complex cloud-native environments.
