In July 2025, Hassan Afayek enhanced the grafana/prometheus repository by expanding TSDB block statistics to improve observability and data quality. He implemented new BlockStats features in Go, adding a NumHistogramSamples field and logic to track histogram-encoded chunks, as well as a NumFloatSamples statistic to count float samples within TSDB blocks. These changes introduced more granular metrics, enabling better visibility into sample distributions and supporting capacity planning and performance tuning. Hassan ensured all updates were traceable and reproducible through well-documented commits, demonstrating a focused approach to backend development and a deep understanding of metrics instrumentation and data analysis.
