Worked on the NREL/OpenStudio-HPXML repository to enhance electric vehicle energy modeling by addressing occupancy-aware scenarios. Developed a feature that updates unavailable_periods.csv, ensuring EV charging and discharging are marked as unavailable during vacant building periods. This approach improved the accuracy of energy consumption predictions by preventing overestimation when buildings are unoccupied. Leveraged data management and energy modeling skills, focusing on CSV manipulation to align model behavior with real-world occupancy patterns. Maintained clear documentation of these changes to support future revisions and facilitate ongoing model fidelity. The work demonstrated attention to detail in refining simulation accuracy for building energy analysis.
March 2025 — NREL/OpenStudio-HPXML: Implemented targeted EV energy modeling enhancement to respect vacant periods. Updated unavailable_periods.csv to mark EV charging and discharging as unavailable when buildings are vacant, improving accuracy of EV energy consumption modeling during unoccupied periods. This aligns with our objective to increase model fidelity and trust in energy predictions.
