During May 2026, work focused on enhancing the bigcommerce/cornerstone repository by implementing Backorder Messaging on the Product Detail Page for picklist products. This feature was designed to clearly display backorder status to users, aiming to improve the shopping experience and reduce cart abandonment due to confusion about product availability. The solution leveraged Stencil front-end rendering, utilizing JavaScript and HTML within Stencil templates to integrate the messaging seamlessly into the PDP. The implementation was traceable through the BACK-655 issue, ensuring auditability.
