Worked on the VenkatasivareddyTR/aws-athena-query-federation repository to enhance AWS Athena Federation security by implementing least-privilege governance. Focused on refining access controls, the developer removed the dynamodb:ListSchemas permission from the athena-dynamodb.yaml configuration, thereby reducing the surface area for federated queries and aligning with compliance requirements. This change was configuration-only, ensuring no functional regressions while strengthening the security posture. Leveraged AWS, Cloud Security, and IAM expertise, with YAML as the primary language for configuration management. The work demonstrated a methodical approach to minimizing unnecessary permissions, supporting robust governance practices and maintaining operational integrity within the cloud environment.
