In December 2024, Akamas established a reproducible local development environment for the HeyPuter/puter repository, focusing on containerization and DevOps best practices. By introducing a devcontainer.json configuration, Akamas defined the container image, installed features, and environment settings to standardize development across machines and IDEs. This approach addressed environment drift and onboarding friction, providing a consistent baseline for all contributors. The work, implemented primarily using JSON, laid the groundwork for future enhancements such as automated local testing and improved CI/CD integration. While the scope was focused, the solution demonstrated a thoughtful application of containerization to streamline developer workflows and productivity.
