During October 2025, Alex Kotro contributed to the NixOS/nixpkgs repository, focusing on governance improvements and security hardening. Alex updated the maintainer list to reflect current project governance, enhancing documentation and onboarding clarity for contributors. In parallel, Alex addressed a security concern by modifying the Tsidp service to use a dedicated state directory under /var/lib/tsidp, rather than defaulting to user home directories, thereby improving state isolation and reducing risk. These changes were implemented using Nix and leveraged skills in configuration management and system configuration.
