Alan Borzeszkowski enhanced hardware compatibility in the torvalds/linux repository by adding Nova Lake SPI serial flash PCI ID support to the intel-pci driver. Working in C and leveraging expertise in device drivers and kernel development, Alan aligned the new hardware ID with existing PCI ID tables to enable native detection and operation on newer Intel platforms. This targeted kernel-level update facilitated automatic driver selection and binding, reducing the need for manual workarounds. The patch was focused and maintainable, validated through standard build and test processes, and effectively improved device support and user experience for Nova Lake-based systems with minimal risk.
