Worked on the google-gemini/gemini-cli repository to address a critical issue in the tracing subsystem, focusing on improving memory management and reliability. Utilized Node and TypeScript to implement a FinalizationRegistry-based solution that ensures trace spans are properly ended when associated asynchronous objects are garbage collected. Enhanced the runInDevTraceSpan function to register async generators with the span registry, preventing multiple endings and ensuring cleanup on errors. Targeted a memory leak in the trace’s streamWrapper, resulting in improved stability and debuggability. Demonstrated full stack development and testing skills by delivering a robust fix that reduces silent failures and enhances developer productivity.
