During March 2025, Alex Oloso focused on enhancing the robustness and compiler compatibility of the GEOS-ESM/MAPL repository. He addressed a critical bug affecting MAPL’s OpenMP_Support.F90 under the NAG compiler in debug mode by refactoring a variable into a one-element integer array, ensuring correct behavior in the transfer function. Alex also improved error handling in the CapGrid component by adding explicit return-code checks, which strengthened initialization and execution reliability. Working primarily in Fortran, he applied skills in code refactoring and compiler debugging to deliver stability improvements that reduce the risk of silent failures and facilitate easier production debugging.
