In August 2025, Alex Soules enhanced the Shopify/dawn repository by refactoring the cart performance measurement system to provide more accurate metrics. Focusing on front end development with JavaScript, Alex excluded debounce delays and background tab idle time from the calculations, ensuring that performance data reflected only actual network and DOM processing. This approach addressed a key measurement gap and prevented inflated P90 times, supporting more reliable data-driven cart optimizations. By aligning the measurement methodology with the Horizon theme, Alex promoted consistency across themes. The work demonstrated a thoughtful application of performance optimization principles and contributed to improved reporting accuracy.
