Month 2025-07: Focused on delivering documentation to enable adoption of Istio ambient mode waypoint proxies within openshift-service-mesh/sail-operator. Key deliverable: Ambient Mode Waypoint Proxies Documentation, covering installation, configuration, cross-namespace usage, traffic routing examples, and authorization policies. Commit 9b50ba6734cede6b1859de55cf050d38c5f53df1 added. No major bugs fixed this month. Business and technical impact: faster onboarding, clearer guidance for operators, reduced support overhead. June 2025 monthly summary for the openshift-service-mesh/sail-operator: Delivered Ambient mode tech-preview documentation and deployment guide for OpenShift Service Mesh. The work provides architecture overview, prerequisites, installation steps for ambient mode, CNI and Ztunnel proxy setup, discovery selectors, and steps to deploy and verify the Bookinfo application in ambient mode. This enables customers to quickly adopt Ambient mode and accelerates onboarding, reducing time-to-value.

Month 2024-11: Delivered a targeted fix to stabilize telemetry tracing tests on OpenShift within the Istio project. Implemented a host header addition to HTTP requests to ensure reliable DNS resolution when routing to the tracing service through the OpenShift ingress gateway, while preserving compatibility with Kind environments. The change reduces flakiness in CI and local testing, contributing to more predictable release cycles and observability reliability. The work aligns with ongoing efforts to strengthen test infrastructure and deployment portability.
