Worked on the temporalio/sdk-java repository to deliver two backend features focused on workflow reliability and management using Java and unit testing. Developed enhancements that added history size and count hints to workflow task attributes, enabling automated suggestions for workflow continuation based on event history. Implemented graceful shutdown heartbeats, allowing in-flight activities to continue heartbeating during worker shutdown, which improved lifecycle resilience and reduced manual intervention. The technical approach included updating worker options, refining shutdown logic, and expanding test coverage to validate heartbeat behavior. The work demonstrated depth in backend development and contributed to safer, more efficient workflow operations without major bug fixes.
