Ben developed and integrated a new INSTANT_ALWAYS sensor type for the alarm system in the Fmstrat/esphome repository, focusing on embedded systems and firmware development using C++ and Python. This feature enables sensors to trigger alarms immediately, even when the system is disarmed, by updating both configuration options and core logic to ensure correct and immediate alarm state transitions. Ben’s work addressed a specific security responsiveness gap, reducing the risk of missed alerts. The implementation included a targeted code change to allow triggering in the disarmed state, and the integration was validated to improve reliability and alert latency within the system.
