During November 2024, Bkhizgiy worked on the kubev2v/forklift repository to enhance observability and monitoring for migration workflows. They implemented a Prometheus recording rule to collect detailed migration telemetry, enabling more data-driven decisions and faster issue detection. Using YAML and Jinja, Bkhizgiy defined a reusable template for recording migration status metrics, supporting consistent and scalable monitoring. To ensure secure access, they scaffolded RBAC permissions for PrometheusRules, enforcing least-privilege principles around metric collection. The work focused on building foundational monitoring capabilities rather than fixing bugs, demonstrating depth in Kubernetes, Prometheus, and RBAC, and laying groundwork for improved reliability in migration processes.
