Worked on the arXiv/arxiv-browse repository to enhance user communication during planned database maintenance by building a consolidated maintenance banner system. Used HTML and front end development skills to implement configurable start and end dates for banners, ensuring accurate visibility and timely messaging. Addressed lifecycle management by disabling an obsolete opt-in banner, reducing user confusion and aligning notifications with current maintenance scenarios. Improved the logic governing banner expiration and prepared a dedicated banner for an upcoming MySQL upgrade. The work focused on clear, maintainable user guidance during maintenance windows, emphasizing precise control over banner display and streamlined communication for end users.
