Worked on enhancing observability and reliability for secret management in the opensearch-project/data-prepper repository by adding targeted metrics to the SecretsRefreshJob component. Leveraging Java and the AWS SDK, implemented instrumentation to track AWS SecretsManager ResourceNotFound and LimitExceeded exceptions, enabling proactive alerting and faster remediation of secret-related issues. This approach improved incident visibility and response readiness, reducing the risk of outages tied to secrets management. The work demonstrated a focus on backend development and compliance needs by surfacing actionable metrics, ultimately strengthening the resilience of data-prepper’s secret management processes through precise monitoring and integration with existing AWS infrastructure.
