During December 2024, Borna Punda enhanced the typst/typst repository by implementing support for Croatian smart quotes, addressing internationalization needs in typographical systems. He introduced the Croatian language code into the smart quotes logic, ensuring correct mapping of opening and closing quote characters for Croatian text. Working in Rust, Borna focused on robust string handling within Typst’s core, laying the foundation for broader multilingual quote support. He also updated tests and documentation to maintain reliability and clarity. This work deepened Typst’s internationalization capabilities, demonstrating careful attention to language-specific typographical rules and maintainable code practices in a production codebase.
