Worked on improving encoding robustness in the shell command processors for both the google-gemini/gemini-cli and zed-industries/gemini-cli repositories. Addressed two critical bugs by implementing a more reliable encoding detection mechanism, introducing a caching layer to optimize performance, and enhancing the handling of multi-byte characters in shell outputs. Expanded test coverage ensured that encoding-related functions performed accurately across diverse platforms, reducing platform-specific failures. The work leveraged Node.js and TypeScript, with a focus on encoding handling and full stack development. These changes established consistent, reliable encoding behavior across both projects, improving the reliability of shell command outputs in varied environments.
