
Developed and delivered a Rust-based port of the Brusic GW-BASIC interpreter for the macports/macports-ports repository, enabling users to run vintage .BAS programs on modern platforms through the MacPorts package management system. This work focused on expanding legacy-language support by integrating a long-tail technology into a contemporary runtime environment. The project involved Rust programming for the interpreter itself and Tcl scripting to manage the port within MacPorts, ensuring cross-platform compatibility and seamless installation. By implementing this focused, low-risk port, the developer enhanced MacPorts’ capabilities and provided a practical solution for executing legacy GW-BASIC programs on current systems.
