The approach unified disparate index-related errors into a single, consistent model by merging IndexStoreError and IndexError enums, and introduced type aliases to streamline I/O error propagation. This consolidation reduced fragmentation in error reporting and simplified debugging across the codebase. The work was implemented in Rust, leveraging skills in API design, code refactoring, and error handling. The focused four-commit refactor delivered measurable business value by enabling more consistent and maintainable error management throughout the project.
