During January 2025, Bunnyhero enhanced biometric authentication in the bitwarden/ios repository by implementing Optic ID support and preparing for future biometric types. They expanded the BiometricAuthenticationType enum in Swift to include new and unknown biometric options, and refined the BiometricsService to accurately map device biometrics to application logic. Using Swift and SwiftUI, Bunnyhero updated the user interface and localization to ensure a consistent experience across various hardware. This work improved security options and device compatibility, laying a foundation for seamless integration of future biometric technologies with minimal disruption to the user interface or underlying iOS development workflows.
