Developed and delivered a feature for the UKGovernmentBEIS/inspect_ai repository that enables the use of the OPENAI_SAFETY_IDENTIFIER environment variable as a default safety identifier when none is specified in model arguments. This approach, implemented in Python, focused on backend development and environment variable management to enhance deployment reliability and reduce misconfiguration risks. The solution ensures that explicit model arguments always take precedence, preserving intentional configurations while providing a safer default. API integration skills were applied to support seamless adoption across environments. Documentation was updated in CHANGELOG.md, and the work reflected collaborative code review practices through co-authored commits.
