Worked on the ublue-os/bazzite repository to enhance the stability of the Message of the Day (MOTD) script, focusing on safe operation within subshell environments. Addressed a runtime issue where the MOTD script interfered with Midnight Commander by implementing a detection mechanism for the MC_SID environment variable, ensuring the script exits immediately when running inside a Midnight Commander subshell. This fix improved user experience and runtime reliability without introducing new features. The work relied on shell scripting skills, specifically using Bash, to deliver a targeted bug fix that prioritized system stability and safe interaction with established terminal workflows.
