Contributed to the openfrontio/OpenFrontIO project by overhauling its audio system and stabilizing UI elements. Delivered a new event-driven audio architecture in TypeScript, introducing 15 sound effects with lazy-loading and EventBus-based playback, ensuring audio functionality even when visual effects are disabled. Refactored the SoundManager for maintainability and normalized 20 sound effects to -22 LUFS to prevent clipping during overlapping events. Additionally, addressed a critical UI regression by fixing sprite asset initialization in the Attacks panel, validated through automated tests and demo recordings. Work focused on audio engineering, sound design, front end development, and robust test coverage for reliability.
June 2026 monthly summary for openfrontio/OpenFrontIO focused on stabilizing the Attacks panel UI and ensuring sprite assets render correctly. The team addressed a critical UI regression by fixing the boat sprite icon rendering in the Attacks panel and validating the fix through automated tests and a documented demo.

April 2026: Audio System Overhaul and Loudness Normalization for OpenFrontIO. Delivered 15 new sound effects wired to FxLayer/EventsDisplay/RadialMenu with EventBus-driven playback, lazy-loading, and a refactored SoundManager (no singleton) to ensure audio works even when visual FX are disabled. Normalized loudness of 20 SFX to -22 LUFS with true peak ≤ -2 dBFS to reduce clipping during simultaneous events. Implemented robust error handling around Howler calls and lifecycle management (dispose) to improve stability. Commits: 18da7134c8cd8184c8f05d2cca5cca37c4526506; ad2be09ee9af5c5335fad71cabdd317cf972cbad. Impact: more immersive audio, consistent user experience, reduced post-release audio issues, maintainable architecture, and improved test coverage.
