During October 2025, Caton Hauer focused on stabilizing the user interface of the Gary-Community-Ventures/benefits-calculator repository by addressing a persistent bug in the CurrentBenefits component. Using React with JavaScript and TypeScript, Caton identified and resolved an issue where category icons were rendered multiple times due to duplicate logic, which led to inconsistent icon displays. By refining the rendering path to enforce a single-pass approach, Caton improved both the accuracy and reliability of the UI. The work also involved resolving a merge conflict related to the icon logic, demonstrating careful debugging and attention to detail in front end development practices.
