Developed a Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) recognition feature for the microsoft/presidio repository, focusing on automated detection of US Medicare IDs within text. Leveraging Python, regular expressions, and pattern recognition, the work introduced the UsMbiRecognizer, which supports both dashed and undashed MBI formats to enhance compliance and analytics workflows. The implementation included integration with the existing recognizers framework and comprehensive unit testing to ensure production readiness. By automating the identification and tagging of Medicare IDs, the solution reduced manual review requirements and improved data quality for downstream analytics, demonstrating a focused approach to domain-specific feature delivery within a regulated context.
