
Developed OpenTelemetry instrumentation for Prefect Flow runs in the PrefectHQ/prefect repository, enabling comprehensive end-to-end observability of flow executions. The work integrated distributed tracing into the flow engine using Python, allowing flow states, errors, and timeouts to be emitted as events within OTEL spans. Extended the FlowRun schema with labels to capture richer context for diagnostics and monitoring. Designed and implemented a robust test suite to validate both successful and exception scenarios, ensuring reliability of the new observability features. Focused on distributed tracing, observability, and testing, the contribution improved diagnostics and reduced mean time to resolution for flow-related issues.
