Worked on improving accessibility and user experience in the instructure-ui repository by addressing a critical issue in the focus region dismissal workflow. Refactored the event handling logic within ui-a11y-utils to ensure that mouse down events originating outside the focus region reliably trigger dismissal, preventing mis-targeted interactions. This update enhanced the predictability and accessibility of focus-region interactions, resulting in a smoother and more consistent user experience. Utilized TypeScript for front-end and UI development, applying accessibility best practices throughout the process. The work focused on stability and reliability, delivering a targeted bug fix that improved event capture and dismissal behavior.
