During October 2024, contributed to the satijalab/seurat repository by delivering a configurable option for the RunUMAP function, specifically exposing the uwot.approx_pow parameter. This enhancement allowed users to fine-tune the approximation of the power function within the uwot UMAP implementation, offering greater flexibility in balancing embedding quality and computational performance across diverse datasets. The work focused on careful API surface design to maintain stability while integrating seamlessly with existing workflows. Utilizing R and leveraging skills in bioinformatics, data visualization, and dimensionality reduction, the contribution broadened Seurat’s applicability and reduced the need for user workarounds without introducing additional maintenance overhead.
