Worked on the restatedev/restate repository to deliver a targeted RocksDB compaction feature, focusing on enhancing database maintenance and operational reliability. Developed a dedicated CLI command in Rust that enables selective per-database compaction, incorporating robust error handling and improved input validation. The implementation modernized timeout handling by aligning it with runtime configuration and refined CLI behavior to reduce operational risk, such as supporting multiple database kinds and safer node resolution. Sequential compaction was introduced to prevent IO overload, with detailed per-database success and failure reporting. This work leveraged skills in CLI development, backend engineering, and database management using gRPC.
February 2026 monthly summary for restatedev/restate: Delivered a targeted RocksDB compaction capability, significantly improving maintenance control, performance, and reliability. The changes enable selective per-database compaction, robust error handling, and safer CLI operations with validated inputs and clearer reporting.
