December 2025 monthly summary for OSGeo/gdal. Key feature delivered: Cloud Run Environment Detection for GDAL Authentication, enabling GDAL to automatically use the correct service account when accessing Google Cloud Storage in Cloud Run. This work added Cloud Run-specific environment variable checks to determine the authentication path and includes a robust fallback for environments without metadata, addressing prior failures. Major bug fixed: authentication failures in Cloud Run containers caused by missing metadata files, now resolved by the detection/fallback logic. Impact: improved reliability and uptime for GDAL-based GCS access in serverless deployments, reduced support incidents, and smoother deployments for users on Cloud Run. Technologies demonstrated: environment detection logic, Google Cloud authentication flows, handling of serverless metadata constraints, code changes in GDAL referencing PR #13544.
