Worked on the livekit/agents repository to enhance reliability and telemetry for speech-to-text transcription latency. Focused on correcting the transcription_delay metric calculation by ensuring last_speaking_time was validated against None rather than zero, which improved the accuracy of STT turn detection and latency metrics. This Python-based solution, leveraging audio processing and speech recognition skills, provided more precise latency visibility in monitoring dashboards. The targeted bug fix improved the quality of service level agreement reporting and informed downstream performance decisions. The approach prioritized code health with minimal risk, resulting in more accurate telemetry and better user experience without introducing new features.
