In March 2026, Dino Costis enhanced the ONSdigital/design-system repository by delivering three accessibility and usability features focused on mobile navigation, text readability, and chart accessibility. Using HTML, SCSS, and JavaScript, Dino refactored the header navigation to use flexbox, enabling an expanded menu for small screens that improves both mobile usability and keyboard accessibility. He also updated highlighted text styling to remove background images and ensure accessible underlining, supporting consistent readability. Additionally, Dino integrated detailed screen reader descriptions for chart annotations directly into chart configuration, aligning with WCAG principles and deepening the system’s inclusive data presentation and front end accessibility.
