During March 2026, Dogukan Karakas developed in-place tensor permutation support for arbitrary permutations in the apache/systemds repository. This feature enables memory-efficient tensor reshaping by allowing tensors to be permuted directly in memory, reducing overhead and improving performance for matrix operations. Karakas approached the problem with a focus on performance-conscious design, collaborating with other contributors to ensure robust implementation. The work was completed in Java, leveraging advanced skills in matrix operations and tensor manipulation. By closing SYSTEMDS-3547 and addressing issue #2412, Karakas delivered a concrete technical improvement that enhances the flexibility and efficiency of tensor workflows within the project.
