Worked on enhancing observability and error handling for the opentofu/opentofu module installation and tracing flows. Focused on backend development using Go, the work addressed critical issues in tracing by ensuring that failed module fetches are correctly surfaced with error status through OpenTelemetry’s SetSpanError. Improved structured logging by correcting tracestate output, which now accurately reflects the tracestate variable, aiding in debugging. These changes spanned the Init, Get Modules, Install Module, and Fetch Package processes, resulting in more reliable observability metrics and faster incident response. All contributions were well-documented, adhering to tracing standards and best practices in error handling.
