During December 2024, James Duong developed and integrated a new TRENDLINE PPL command for the opensearch-project/sql repository, enabling calculation of Simple Moving Averages (SMA) directly within SQL-like queries. He designed the feature to support optional sorting and aliasing, allowing users to perform flexible trend analysis on selected fields. The implementation required backend development and full stack integration, ensuring seamless operation within the existing query execution and planning framework. Using Java, SQL, and PPL, James enhanced the platform’s data analysis capabilities, allowing customers to conduct trend-aware analytics without external tools. The work demonstrated focused depth in analytics feature engineering.
