Eike Send developed routing support for under-construction roads in the valhalla/valhalla repository by introducing an ignore_construction flag, enabling the routing engine to plan routes through roads marked as under construction. This work involved updating API documentation, protocol buffer definitions, and dynamic costing logic to support the new routing behavior. Using C++ and leveraging skills in API design and backend development, Eike’s changes allow for more flexible route planning during construction activities, reducing the need for manual intervention. The feature increases route availability for users when roads are temporarily closed, addressing a practical challenge in real-world navigation scenarios.
