Worked on the matteocrippa/firmware repository, focusing on mesh networking and embedded systems using C++. Developed and integrated a new ROUTER_LATE role for mesh network devices, enabling extended coverage by rebroadcasting packets after primary routers without disrupting main routing paths. This involved updates to packet filtering, queue management, and transmission delay logic. Additionally, addressed firmware reliability by refining transmission queue handling, ensuring high-priority packets are correctly enqueued during congestion and that dropped packets are properly released. Enhanced observability through improved logging for packet drops and queue status, supporting more deterministic transmission behavior and facilitating faster diagnosis of congestion-related issues.
January 2025 monthly summary: Firmware stability and reliability improvements in the transmission queue. Focused on handling full-queue scenarios, ensuring high-priority packets are enqueued correctly, releasing dropped packets from the pool properly, and elevating observability with enhanced logging for drops and queue status. Result: more deterministic TX behavior under load and improved monitoring capabilities for congestion events.
