Over four months, Fhr contributed to the thunderbird/thunderbird-l10n repository by delivering four features focused on modernizing localization and internationalization in Thunderbird’s front end. Fhr migrated key UI components—including the message list, account creation, and filter management interfaces—to the Fluent localization framework using JavaScript and FTL. This work centralized and clarified localization strings, improved pluralization handling, and enabled dynamic language support, particularly for multi-author scenarios and filter actions. By refactoring legacy code and introducing scalable localization scaffolding, Fhr enhanced maintainability, reduced translation drift, and laid the groundwork for faster, more consistent localization updates across multiple languages and locales.
